RAY.BBDM is currently managing a search process for a large listed multinational company, that leads the market they operate in. Our client is based in Porto (Portugal) and is looking for a Consolidation & IFRS Expertise Director. In this role you have a pivotal position, being on a crossroad of information coming from or being provided to financial stakeholders and upper management, while working in an environment with significant space to take initiative and make an impact on the company’s business and strategy.

The Consolidation & IFRS Expertise Director will be responsible for:

  • Monitoring consolidation and management reporting, controlling and challenging the balance sheet submission of the various areas, contributing to the consolidated accounts;
  • Developing the process, best practices and improving the quality of management reporting;
  • Preparing quarterly consolidated financial statements, while supporting, reviewing, and challenging the team in order to prepare accurate consolidated P&L, Balance sheet and Cash Flow;
  • Contributing to the Annual Report and coordinating the obtention of relevant information from different departments (e.g., Treasury and Tax);
  • Supporting and controlling finance teams in year-end tax reporting deliverables, guiding the accounting team and supporting them in the preparation of tax reporting deliverables, using IFRS expertise in the context of IAS12 and tax reporting requirements;
  • Providing IFRS/Accounting expertise to finance teams, ensuring accounting policies and reporting processes are aligned with IFRS requirements and are consistently applied across the company;
  • Preparing accounting analysis of complex transactions through the preparation of position papers in various areas;
  • Being in close contact with the commercial team and advising them on the IFRS impacts of potential future transactions;
  • Contributing to the implementation and deployment of new Tax reporting tools in the context of the new ERP implementation, being in charge of the project interface between Finance and Tax teams;
  • Adapting company reporting tools and processes according to business and management requirements;
  • Leading, developing and building a dynamic team of experts in Consolidation, IFRS standards and Tax reporting and controlling, while also recruiting top talent for the organization and ensuring optimal focus to meet the management’s expectations in terms of quality of the information delivered;
  • Being the key point of contact of external auditors, ensuring proper timing and accurate delivery of requested information to the external auditors.

Job Requirements:

  • Relevant academic background and qualifications in Finance (i.e., CPA, ACCA, or equivalent);
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in a similar corporate position, ideally in a large cap listed company, complemented by experience in an international audit firm;
  • Strong IFRS technical knowledge, including of tax requirements regarding IFRS;
  • Experience in the consolidation of accounts;
  • Experience working in an international team environment and in managing ambiguity;
  • Proven track record in building high performing organizations and being a talented executive with significant business experience, ideally gained in the energy sector, within a complex organization;
  • Proven skills in terms of leadership, team management, identification and development of talent and building/leading teams;
  • Demonstrated success in management of stakeholders and change management;
  • Ability to work with the business and provide support/advice;
  • Hands-on approach and ability to work under pressure;
  • Self-motivated, proactive and able to function in a tight deadline-oriented environment;
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal;
  • Availability to work in Porto, Portugal.
